You’re Gonna “Larva” This Exciting BugFest at Kentucky’s Bernheim Forest
I know some of you may get the heebie-jeebies when you see a bug crawling around, but I love learning about new multi-legged critters. My favorite Facebook group is called All Bugs Go to Kevin where folks can post pictures of bugs to identify or learn more about them. There is also an annual festival that celebrates insects of all kinds and it's right here in Kentucky.
Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest
A family favorite event is returning to the Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest in Clermont, Kentucky just right outside of Louisville. Michael, Rollins, and I have been hiking there with friends before and had a great time exploring. They have those huge giant sculptures made from pieces of wood and recycled things that you can discover along the trails.
Along with the giants, Bernheim has a great schedule of events for folks of all ages to learn more about nature. Art installations, workshops, and even a chance to explore the arboretum at night time!
Bernheim Arboretum Celebrates 21st Annual BugFest
On September 21st, from 11AM to 4PM they are hosting the 21st annual BugFest.
Celebrate our six and eight-legged friends with the Parade of Bugs, take an adventure on an Insect Safari, dare to Eat-A-Bug, and much more!
Bugfest shows our appreciation for the role of insects in our lives and the essential ecological services the insects and their relatives provide.
Eat-A-Bug?! How hilarious! Surely not a real one? Here is a video about last year's event.
Learning About Bugs
Dress up like a bug for the Bug Parade, and explore the observation beehive or insect zoo to learn more about how these little critters play a huge role in our ecosystem. They even have a spider tent which may or may not give me goosebumps, but I would totally have to check it out anyway.
This event is perfect for children, but as a grown-up, I am all about the activities they have planned as well! Bernheim Forest is such a beautiful park and a wonderful way to spend the day in nature with your family and friends. Admission is a recommended $15 per car or register for a membership and you can visit however often you want for free.
