As I live and breathe, I can't believe what I'm about to write. It's true, we've seen many celebrities run for office in the past, I'm just so sad I won't be able to vote for Melissa Gilbert to win Michigan's 8th District. Here's the actress' official Twitter announcement.

I mean, I'm over the moon! But then I ask, "how did this happen?" Okay, Gilbert married fellow actor and Michigan native Timothy Busfield ("Revenge of the Nerds", "thirtysomething") in 2013. The couple currently resides in Howell in Livingston County. The actress is running for the 8th District seat, which covers three counties from the northern Detroit suburbs to the state capitol of Lansing. This seat has been held by a Republican for the past 15 years. Rep. Mike Bishop won the seat last year after then-House Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Rogers decided to not seek re-election.

While Half Pint, I mean Gilbert has never held public office, she was president of the Screen Actors Guild from 2001-2005. Of course, this got me thinking, was there ever an election episode of 'Little House on the Prairie'? Yes, there was! Season 3, Mary, Nellie, and Elmer, who was unpopular and mistreated eventually won when Mary dropped out. I'm pretty sure Nellie was disqualified, shocker!

GO HALF PINT GO!
