Save the Date! The U.S. Navy Blue Angels Are Coming Back to Kentucky in 2024

The 2023 Owensboro Air Show is in the books. It was a magnificent three-day event that was packed full of highlights. Those highlights were headlined by the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, who were making their third appearance in town.

Air show photographer Chris Conley snapped some terrific shots of the Thunderbirds- from the moment they flew into town Thursday afternoon through their final pass in the last show Sunday afternoon.

I happened to be over near the Owensboro-Daviess County Regional Airport and Mid-America Jet when the Thunderbirds landed Sunday afternoon- just moments after wrapping up the 2023 show. I immediately started thinking ahead to 2024 when the Blue Angels will roar back into town. They last headlined the show back in 2021.

But before we "save the date", I want to share some more incredible photos from "the legend" Chris. Chris spent two days perched high atop the roof of the Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Downtown Owensboro/Waterfront. On the first day, he was solely focused on capturing the precision and detail of the complex maneuvers performed by the teams. On Sunday afternoon, his mission was different. "As an airshow photographer, especially after 4 days of it, we use Sundays to give back to the performers with money shots of the teams."

He took some phenomenal "money shots!" Take a look.

And, yeah! It totally looks like the Thunderbird on the bottom of that photo posed for that pic. It's like he knew Chris has his sights and lens focused squarely on him. INCREDIBLE!

And the 2024 Owensboro Air Show is shaping up to be incredible as well. Next September, the U.S. Navy Blue Angels will return to Owensboro.
