The Worst Storms I Remember – Dave Spencer’s Top Five
I don’t remember very many really bad storms as a child. We’d have tornado warnings and the sirens would sound. That would frighten the life out of me, but then we’d head over to my grandmother’s house and go down into her basement and then nothing would materialize. And when I was kid, I LOVED snowstorms. But I’m all grown up now. And I have grown-up attitudes about some of these nasty storms. In a nutshell, I’m not a fan. Here now are the worst storms I can remember:
Keep Cool with Fun Indoor and Educational Activities at The Daviess County Public Library
Next week at the DCPL kids and families alike will get a chance to listen in to "Stories From the Hills", Appalachian Mountain Tales. The children and myself have been having a great time with fun indoor activities hosted by the Daviess County Public Library throughout this Summer and I highly reccommend you stop in and take advantage yourself.
At WBKR, We Fry Eggs the Old Fashioned Way…on the Asphalt [VIDEO]
Okay, so the old expression goes something like this, "Why it's hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk." We decided to go with asphalt. It's black and bound to be hotter. And yesterday--Tuesday, July 12th, 2011--the heat index reached 124 degrees. Somebody get the egg timer!
Vintage WBKR [AUDIO]
Hi this is Steve Horn, I grew up listening to WBKR as a kid and loved it then as still love it just as much today! I've been an employee here at WBKR since 1989. Here's a little history about 92.5 FM WBKR that you may or may not have known about? WBKR has been on the air since 1948, cranks out 100,000 watts of power; covering 4 states and over 200 counties, been helping families in need in the tri-state since 1976 with our WBKR Christmas Wish Program, covering NASCAR races for ma
Owensboro Business, UniFirst, Featured On CBS Show “Undercover Boss”
Last night I was watching CBS 44 at the beginning of the show it talked about UniFirst, a company in Owensboro; they are the leading supplier of uniforms, workwear and related products to businesses big and small since 1936. It was a very interesting show the President and CEO put on a wig and fake mustache and worked along side with people in the company to see how it was to work there and what could be done to make life easier in the company.
Random Furniture, Wrinkled Clothes, And Processed Food: I’m Back In Owensboro!
Okay, Erin here; to be fair, none of those things listed in my title have anything to do with Owensboro or with each other, but I couldn't sleep and my mind was racing, so here we go. Yes, it's true, I've moved back to Owensboro after a nearly three-year sabbatical with my parents in Hartford
Daviess County Lions Club Fair Roars Into Philpot
Oh, man, there is nothing that screams "SUMMER!" like a county fair. So head east out Highway 54 and get ready to soak in the season. The 2011 Daviess County Lions Club Fair is rockin' the 4H Fairgrounds in Philpot, Kentucky!
BAYLI BOLING: The 2011 Miss “Daivess” County!
Yes, Daviess is spelled incorrectly in the headline and I promise I will explain soon! But, in the meantime . . . last night, I had the honor of emceeing the 2011 Miss Daviess County Pageant! The event is the annual kick-off for the Daviess County Lions Club Fair and 12 contestants were on hand at The Hines Center to compete for the crown and sash! After the last swimsuit was spray-glued, the final evening gown was worn, the final on-stage question asked and answered, a beauty queen was crowned! Ladies and gentleman, we are proud to introduce the 2011 Miss Daviess County . . . BAYLI QUINN BOLING!
Parrish Avenue Church Sign Gets Right to the Point
"It's always your favorite sins that do you in."
That's my favorite line from Kenny Chesney's latest hit, "You and Tequila," written by Matraca Berg and Deana Carter. But I'll try to withhold playing the song as I drive down West Parrish Avenue in Owensboro. Thanks to Grace Pointe Church and this tongue-in-cheek little number, I had a big enough laugh that I needed to pull over.
