This year marks the 25th Anniversary of  the Reid's Apple Festival on Highway 144 in Owensboro, and the weather is shapping up to be very nice this weekend! This is a great family event filled with carnival rides, vendors, crafts, great food and apple treats of every kind!  Our very own Barb Birgy will broadcast live Saturday, stop by the WBKR trailer and say hello and don't miss all the fun Saturday & Sunday at the 25th Annual Reid's Apple Festival on Highway 144 in Owensboro!

On Sunday, I took Carsyn to Reid's Orchard here in Owensboro. Now, those of you that listen to my Mid-Day Show know that I LOVE Reid's!! (Awesome snacks!! Haha!) Well...Carsyn does too!! And, even thou I had NO cash and had to take $30 worth of quarters in a ziplock bag....we had a blast!!

On Tuesday, I headed down to Nashville to broadcast live at The Grand Ole Opry.  It was a really special day at the Opry!  A star-studded line-up had gathered for George Jones' 80th birthday concert celebration.  The Oak Ridge Boys were there, Jamey Johnson, Alan Jackson, Pam Tillis and more were on hand to pay tribute to The Possum and I got the pleasure of listening to some of the rehearsal performances.  It was REALLY cool!  But, let's cut the small talk and get down to the business at hand!  Not only did I get to be backstage at The Opry, I got to head over to the OPRY BACKSTAGE GRILL and stuff my big ole face.  And, yes, I had a camera to capture every delicious bite!!

Last Saturday at Trunnell's Farm Market, nine WBKR listeners came to compete for the title ROD-IRON CHEF AMERICA!  The challenge:  to create an original recipe using at least one farm-fresh ingredient available at Trunnell's.  We had a potato dish, Creole corn, a baked peach pancake, sloppy joes and cornbread, Janet's "Just Peachy" Cake and more!  Everything was DELICIOUS!!  Our judges had a difficult time choosing a winner, but did!  And the 2011 ROD-IRON CHEF AMERICA is Brenda Davis from Hartford, who, along with her friend, Sue Austin, cooked up some delicious Chutney Chicken Sandwiches!  And, there's good news for you guys!  She agreed to let us share the recipe . . .

Thursday afternoon was an unusual afternoon. I was doing a live broadcast from Green River Appliance and Electronics at 14th and Daviess Streets in Owensboro. The temperature was 97 degrees; it felt like 106. And people were flocking to the store to eat HOT food. Outside. While gathered around a grill--a grill whose temperature rose to 450 degrees at one point, I might add. Why? Because Grillmaster Jeff Raymond was cooking on a Big Green Egg--a revolutionary outdoor grill.
