It was about a month ago that I was a part of the judging panel for the Coca-Cola Talent Show at the Daviess County Fair at the Hines Center in Philpot.
The City of Owensboro recently announced that Bridge Day is returning! Last year to celebrate the re-opening of the Blue Bridge, people were invited to walk or bike across the bridge and it was so exciting! This year the event is set for Saturday, September 8th in conjunction with the East Bridge Arts Festival (presented by Studio Slant).
Saturday was a great day at Ellis Park. For starters, after a week of sweltering heat and stifling humidity, the weather was terrific--warm but not very humid at all. And folks came from everywhere to watch the camels and ostriches.
It'll be like a scene from Madagascar--camels and ostriches joining the thoroughbreds for live racing action at Ellis Park this Saturday afternoon! No penguins, though.
Back in February, Antiques Roadshow, one of the most enjoyable pastimes a man like me can enjoy, mentioned an Owensboro man by the name of John Thompson! And, tonight, PBS's new series, "History Detectives", has the results of a search they conducted for the man who owned these pistols.
Over the weekend, my family and I took advantage of some awesome weather to investigate a little family history in Louisville. One of our stops was Cave Hill Cemetery.
If you're a UK player, and unless you commit a heinous crime during your time on Earth, you are a beloved individual in the Commonwealth of Kentucky for the rest of your days.

UK players get it, respect it, love it, and give it back.
I didn't think so much of this ad until I saw the pretty lady in it is from Indiana (albeit NORTH Indiana) but she went to school at Northern Kentucky, so that makes her almost a neighbor. I am sorta tired of it now. It airs all the time on MLB Network, which I watch constantly. Anyway, from our buds at Guy Speed here's the scoop.
Six year old Harlie Bryant is our special guest for Jaclyn's Front Yard Party, sponsored by the Big O Music Fest, today. Come by and join in the fun, make a donation and have a delicious barbecued sandwich made by the family
Former Apollo High School standout Rex Chapman is among the inaugural class of the Kentucky High School Basketball Hall of Fame in Elizabethtown Saturday night. The first class is stacked with stars of the state's high schools from the 1940's through the 1990's. The world famous Cliff Hagen, a star at Owensboro High School, will also be inducted. Both men went on to great success at the University of Kentucky and in pro basketball. The event will be held in the First Federal Gallery of the Historic State Theater in E-town. Tickets are $30. Here are the remaining inductees:
For the diehard college basketball fan, summer truly is a S-L-O-W period. I mean, you can follow recruiting news, but that's about it...UNTIL schools release non-conference fall schedules. I'm really excited about Western Kentucky's impressive slate, and now the University of Kentucky has released its list of non-con opponents. But what gives?
