Opening Ceremonies for Special Olympics World Games [Video]

I am a sobbing mess.  The Special Olympics World Games officially get underway this evening in Los Angeles with the Opening Ceremonies and, here in Western Kentucky, we are rooting for Chris Willis of Owensboro!  Chris is representing Team USA in swimming and hopes to bring home gold.  Chris is one of over 7,000 athletes from 177 different countries who are on hand to compete this summer.  And these athletes are the definition of "courage" and "perseverance."  Check out this promotional video for the Games.  I literally sat at my computer and cried.  As you all know, I am a sucker for the Olympics and the Special Olympics World Games make the "thrill of victory" even sweeter and more triumphant.  Let the Games begin!

How Caitlyn Jenner Has Changed My Way Of Thinking

Like millions of others around the country, I just finished watching the ESPY's. Contrary to popular belief, I actually watch for the awards, not just to see if Kevin Love took a date. And, to be honest, like many others, I wasn't exactly thrilled with the choice of Caitlyn Jenner winning the Arthur Ashe Award For Courage. I just felt that there were other people who had been thru so much more than her and it really bothered me. I was wrong for thinking that. And, after watching her speech, I realize that I may never know the amount of courage it took for her to finally live her life freely.

But, I will have to say, what I've seen regarding the show and her winning is disturbing. There's nothing like a good Facebook feed scroll to really make you question humanity. I wonder... Do you really feel all of that hatred that you're saying? Do you have any idea what damage your words could really be doing? Do you care?

I have way too much change in my wallet/purse, I don't what to call it, but when I picked out what I though was a quarter, I discovered it was the Susan B. Anthony one dollar piece. It's dated 1979, and it was in circulation for only a few years. When the $10 dollar bill gets a makeover, a woman will be on it. It's about time!
