If you have a child, chances are you have heard of the Imagination Library.  This wonderful organization has been providing free books to homes with kids under 5 years old since 1996. I remember when my son Rollins was young, he always got so excited when we found a new story in the mailbox every month. We enjoyed spending family time together reading some of his favorite stories.

Intending to encourage the love of reading and the importance of literacy, Dolly Parton started the Imagination Library where she grew up in Eastern Tennessee. Since then, her mission has spread all over the world. She has even partnered with the American Printing House for the Blind located in Louisville, KY to make books accessible to blind and low vision readers.

Thanks to generous community partners, local fundraisers like trivia nights, and Owensboro landmark ornament sales, the Daviess County Imagination Library mails one book a month to young readers and their families to enjoy.

For the past few years, the Imagination Library has also hosted a magical event in Owensboro where everyone's favorite storybook characters from princesses to superheroes gather together at Moreland Park. This year, the Storybook Picnic will be held Saturday May 11th from 9-11 AM.

These characters are available for photos, playing games, face painting, snacks, fun balloon animals, and all kinds of family fun. Your kiddo will even get a free book to take home with them. Follow the Imagination Library Storybook Picnic event page on Facebook for more information. Here is the adorable flyer with everything you need to know.
