I am all in favor of finding new, creative, and fun ways to encourage young people to read more - and this is one of the neatest ideas I have heard of in a while. I might be a little biased, though, because I love just about any idea that involves doggies.

Paws for Tales

The Evansville Vanderburgh Public Library (EVPL) announced a new event called Paws for Tales which gives kiddos not only the chance to work on their reading ability but also their ability to speak in public or to read in front of others. This is accomplished by the kids reading to an attentive and non-judgmental audience - a sweet puppy dog.

The doggy we're talking about is PIPER, and she will be available to read to on Monday, May 1, at 5:30pm at the EVPL West branch, located on Franklin Street.

Piper is ready to listen to you read! Kiddos can practice their confidence and literacy skills by reading aloud to a therapy dog.
