Fundraiser Planned for Ohio County Woman Awaiting Kidney Transplant

Jessy Bennett needs a kidney transplant and is on the waiting list. While the family waits for a medical match, fundraising efforts are underway. Here's how you can help the Bennett family. Many fundraisers are coming up!

For some, getting a healthy kidney can happen overnight, but for others, it can take months or years. For Jessy Bennett, one of the toughest parts is waiting for a suitable organ to be found. According to the National Kidney Foundation, once you are added to the national organ transplant waiting list, you may receive an organ fairly quickly, or you may wait many years. The average wait time can be 3-5 years. Hopefully, Jessy and her family won't have to wait that long.

Jessy shared this update on Caring Bridge, "Unfortunately, we are still waiting to hear about a donor match. While they have the list of people to work through, they will only work up one donor at a time (so as not to overwhelm their system). Donor workups include some testing (chest x-ray, EKG, echocardiogram, possibly stress test?) and bloodwork (the amount depends on the person). So we could be looking at a few weeks to a few months depending on how many people they have to schedule/work up."

While they wait, the family is hosting fundraisers to help raise awareness about kidney failure and to prepare themselves financially for the medical bills that will inevitably occur.

HELICOPTER RIDES WITH LUNCH BENEFIT

There will be 2 helicopters taking people up at a time.

WHITESVILLE KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS SHED GIVEAWAY

The Whitesville Knights of Columbus will be raffling off an 8' x 12' shed built on a 4x4 post floor system. Pinewood and batten, hurricane clips, dimensional shingle roof.  They will be drawing at their November meeting on Thursday, November 2nd, 2023.

They will have tickets available at the Turkey Shoots each weekend, there is a plan in place to sell tickets after Masses at St Mary of the Woods (possibly on Oct 14th or 15th), you can reach out to any Whitesville K of C OR get in touch with Jessy Bennett @ 270-314-3194 or Chuck Hagan at (270) 316-1179.
