Summer is here! Well, for the kids it's been here for about a month. One thing my sister and I used to do when it was too hot outside to play was to watch movies over and over on the family VCR, sound familiar? All right kids, put down those video games and smartphones and take a look at some of my favorite VHS classics!

1. Overboard (1987)

Goldie Hawn plays a spoiled rich b-word who hires real-life husband Kurt Russell to remodel a closet on her yacht. When she refuses to pay him, she falls overboard one night, gets amnesia, and Russell the carpenter seeks revenge. However, he and his unruly brood of boys fall in love with her...'Overboard' is available to rent to stream/buy on all services.

2. Teen Witch (1989)

LOL! Talk about a movie that was severely underrated, okay, it's not the best movie ever, but I think kids could get into the whole fantasy aspect. Robyn Lively plays Louise, the girl who just wants to be popular, but keeps failing miserably, that is until she meets Madame Serena (Zelda "This house is clean!" Rubenstein) and she finds out she's a descendant of of the witches of Salem. I'm not kidding. Let the wackiness begin! 'Teen Witch' is available for streaming on Netflix.

3. Troop Beverly Hills (1989)

I can't think of another movie the Grant household rented more. I mean, Shelley Long is one of the best and yes, underrated physical comedic actresses ever. The troop and their leader may be spoiled at first, but they learn from each other and it's one hilarious ride in the process. Especially in this scene. Sadly, 'Troop Beverly Hills' was purged from Netflix recently, but it can be found to rent and stream/buy on all other services.

4. Grease 2 (1982)

All right, we all know 'Grease' front to back, but surprisingly (those who are around my age) also know 'Grease 2' in the same way. Yes, it was one of the worst ideas ever, and it probably planted the seed for a multitude of other bad sequels, but there's just something about 'Grease 2' that pulls you in. I can think of a few: "Cool Rider", "We're Gonna Score Tonight", "A Girl for All Seasons", "Who's That Guy?", etc. Thankfully or regrettably, 'Grease 2' is available for streaming on Netflix. Yes!

5. Shag: The Movie (1989)

While 'Dirty Dancing' was happening in the Catskills in the summer of 1963, down the coast in Myrtle Beach, four girls, one getting married, go and have the time of their lives while shaggin'/dancing the summer away. My sister loved this movie! She even went so far to name four girls in her group of friends after Carson (Phoebe Cates), Pudge (Annabeth Gish), Melania (Bridget Fonda), and Luanne (Page Hannah). Unless you purchase this movie or you have a dusty VHS copy of it somewhere, it's extremely hard to find. Also, when the movie did find its way to the home market, many of songs on the soundtrack were replaced due to licensing issues.

Turn on the A/C, and pop some popcorn! Oh, and "top that"!
