With the No. 1, 3, 4, 5, and 7 seeds having already lost, the West Region is wide open. Arizona and Wichita State have already advanced to the round of 16.

Tenth-seeded Iowa State lost in the waning seconds to Ohio State, the highest seed still alive in the West, early on Sunday in Dayton, Ohio. Thirteenth-seeded La Salle continued its run against 12th-seeded Ole Miss in Kansas City later in the day.

Tyrone Garland banked in a floater with 2.5 seconds remaining, and La Salle beat Mississippi, 76-74, in a thrilling third round game of the 2013 NCAA tournament’s West Region on Sunday in Kansas City, Mo. The 13th-seeded Explorers had to win two games just to face the 12th-seeded Rebels, who upset Wisconsin on Friday. La Salle’s third victory of the NCAAs put them in the Sweet 16 for the first time since 1955. They’ll face ninth-seeded Wichita State on Thursday in Los Angeles.

Garland finished with 17 points, including the game-winning basket he dubbed the “Southwest Philly Floater” in a post-game interview. Ramon Galloway led the Explorers with 24 points. Marshall Henderson led Mississippi with 21 points. The Rebels shot just 21 percent from 3-point range and were a dreadful 10-for-21 from the free throw line.

(2) Ohio State 78, (10) Iowa State 75

Aaron Craft made a 3-point shot with 0.5 seconds remaining to lead second-seeded Ohio State over Iowa State, 78-75, in a third round game of the 2013 NCAA tournament’s West Region on Sunday in Dayton, Ohio. Craft’s shot gave the Buckeyes the win and spoiled the upset bid of the 10th-seeded Cyclones, who stayed close all game. Deshaun Thomas scored 22 points and grabbed five rebounds to lead Ohio State, while Craft finished with 18 points and six assists. The Buckeyes advanced to play Arizona in the round of 16 in Los Angeles on Thursday. Korie Lucious led Iowa State with 19 points, while teammate Melvin Ejim had 10 points and 11 rebounds.
