Have you heard of the new Facebook regulation that prohibits a teacher from contacting a student over the Internet on non-work sites? It's been met with no small amount of controversy. But now a teacher in Missouri has raised an issue with the new law that many--like myself--may have never considered. What if you're a teacher and one or more of your children is a student in the school where you work? Such is the case with Ladue, Missouri teacher Christina Thomas, whose child attends her school. I understand that the law was put into place to eradicate inappropriate contact between teachers and minor children. We've seen far too many stories in the news about such instances. But preventing someone from communicating with his or her own child? Couldn't there be an exception? Ms. Thomas has filed a lawsuit and now the Missouri Teachers' Union and the ACLU have become involved in what has turned into a legal firestorm in the Show-Me State. We'll see what happens. What do you think?
