Owensboro, Kentucky Student Receives Prestigious Coca Cola Scholarship

This isn't the first time David "Davey" Daniel II has made the news and I can say with confidence that it won't be the last. I've had the pleasure of watching this guy grow up and achieve just about every goal he's ever set his mind to.

He is a born leader from being President of his class and various clubs at school to making history as Kentucky's first President of The American Legion Boys Nation. David's hard work and charisma, or "riz" as the kids these days would say, is something to really be proud of. With plans to attend Yale University after graduation, the sky is the limit for how he will continue to make the world a better place.

Because of David's impressive resume, he was chosen from over 100,000 applicants to interview as a finalist in this rigorous process. From that, he "made the cut" as one out of 150 students in the entire country to receive a $20,000 scholarship from the Coca-Cola Foundation. According to their website, "The scholarship is an achievement-based scholarship awarded to students in their final year of high school. Students are recognized for their capacity to lead and serve, as well as their commitment to making a significant impact on their schools and communities."

As an official Coca-Cola Scholar, he will also have the opportunity to attend the Coca-Cola Scholars Program in Atlanta, Georgia for a special weekend at The Leadership Development Institute. The scholars will be honored at a banquet with various dignitaries, have a chance to tour the city, and work together on a community service project.

David is truly looking forward to this. "I am extremely excited not only for the experience, but for the connections I will be able to make with many of the greatest student leaders in the nation. It is such an honor to be a part of a high-achieving alumni community of politicians, CEOs, authors, and more," he said.

I know his family, and friends are incredibly proud of David, not only for his accomplishments so far, but how he always remains humble and grateful for his support system. Especially his dad and Gram. As parents, we all hope our kids are successful and will do whatever we can to guide them along the way. I often hear folks complain about "kids these days," but those people just don't know kids like David.
