The Owensboro Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in the 600 block of Poplar Street in downtown Owensboro on the evening of March 27th.

Here is the press release that WBKR received earlier today:

On March 27th, 2013, at approximately 8:15 p.m., the Owensboro Police
Department responded to 625 Poplar Street for a report of gunshots.

The initial investigation into this incident has revealed that the homeowner,  Herbie Adonas Buckner, was standing on his front porch when one unknown black male approached him. Buckner stated that the male was armed with a handgun and demanded money. When Buckner attempted to run from the suspect, he was shot once in the chest. The suspect was observed leaving the area with a second black male in a grey Dodge Charger that had dark tinted windows.

Herbie Buckner was taken to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital by a family member for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
