Come on.... I used to swim in this thing!  The main water source for most of us here in the Tri-State is the Ohio River.  From what I learned in the past I believe that "Ohio" was an Indian term for... wait for it.... Beautiful.  This beautiful winding waterway is the most polluted body of water in the United States seven years running.

I've never in my life NOT lived within a mile of the Ohio River.  Where I live now is the furthest I've ever been from the river and It's probably only about 4 miles but It's been there my whole life.  In Marietta Ohio, St. Marys W.V, Lewisport KY and now in Owensboro.... the river was always right there.

I've been SWIMMING in it for many many years too!  My family had a little sail boat and we used to to jump off of it and go swimming in the river.  This river is the most polluted body of water in the U.S.  That kinda hurts.

The power plants here in the Tri-State have an enormous hand in making this river as polluted as it is.  But the distance from here to the Mississippi River isn't really that far away.  I mean the river starts in Pennsylvania and runs down through Marietta Ohio where ENORMOUS power plants are pumping this and burning that and creating this.  Then along southern Ohio until it reaches the Tri-State where there is another HUGE batch of power plants and factories but from here to Cairo Illinois is not that far away if you consider all the areas before the Tri-State.   The study says that AK Steel is responsible for 70% of the pollution that gets dumped into the river but what about the other 30% of the pollution?

What this means to me is... Everything from Pennsylvania, through Ohio and West Virginia and Eastern Kentucky only produces 30% of the pollution?  Come on now.  Re-Count!!
