In 2022, Windy Hollow Biscuit House in Owensboro, Kentucky hosted a Friendsgiving event the day before Thanksgiving. It was the restaurant's first "pay what you can event" that encouraged anyone who was going to be eating alone for the holiday to show up, have some great food, make some new friends and enjoy a jump start on the Thanksgiving holiday. In 2023, Friendsgiving is undergoing a bit of a makeover. It's officially becoming Thanksgiving!

The dynamic mother-daughter duo- Evelyn (Rooster) Miller and Hallie McCarty- have decided to host a four-hour buffet event on Thanksgiving Day this year.

They're serving up a huge Thanksgiving-inspired feast and are charging each patron just $2.50 (though customers can pay/tip more if they wish). Like it was in 2022, their goal for 2023 is to welcome people who are spending the holiday alone.

Rooster says last year's event was really popular among the staff at Windy Hollow Biscuit House. She said, "They wanted to work. They asked to.  And they loved it."

The public did too. Evelyn and Hallie estimate last year's crowd at around 400 people. This year, they've love to double that number.

And here's the inspiration behind the decision to charge just $2.50 for the meal. They recently found an old newspaper ad that featured their uncle, Tom Miller.

That newspaper ad dates all the way back to 1969, when the original Windy Hollow Restaurant was first open to the public on Thanksgiving. The price for the meal that year? You guessed it! $2.50.

In addition to charging the same price from 1969, Rooster and Hallie plan to copy the menu from that year as well. Rooster admits there will be a few modifications, but it's going to pretty much be the same Thanksgiving meal they cooked up back in the day.

Windy Hollow Biscuit House is located at 630 Emory Drive in Owensboro.
