Several years ago, I was watching M*A*S*H with my family--we were all big fans--and it happened to be an episode set during the winter. It may have been a Christmas episode; I can't remember. Anyway, there was a lot of snow.

Back then, I thought South Korea--the series was set during the Korean War--was farther south than it is. That's why all the snow was surprising. Mom, however, explained that Owensboro roughly shares the same latitude as South Korea.

Trust me, it was life-altering. I had already been a big fan of geography; I started studying road atlases before I started first grade. But this thrust my fascination into the stratosphere.

My name is Dave Spencer, and I'm a geography nerd.

Now, the revelation that Seoul can have winters like we can does not mean that all locations at the same latitude have the same weather. Factors such as mountainous regions and the proximity to oceans must be weighed heavily. I suppose, in broad sense, you could say that. For example, if a city is 37 degrees north of the equator, it isn't going to be cold nine months out of the year like it would be farther up into the northern hemisphere. Nor would it always be miserably hot and humid like at the Equator.

But topographical realities do have to be considered.

With that in mind, I've rounded up locations that share the same latitude as Kentucky (37.8393° N). So let's begin your imaginary straight-line journey across the globe right now.

10 Locations at (Roughly) the Same Latitude as Kentucky -- Safe Travels!

Kentucky's latitude is 37.8393° N. If you traveled around the world and stayed on that line. You would encounter these locations. (You might have to drive a little, but that's why "roughly" is in the title; not every location on this latitude line is terribly exciting.)
