If you're looking for a Halloween-themed road trip over the next couple of weeks, I may have found the destination for you. Or perhaps you'd like to add it to a future itinerary. It's in Louisville, after all, and we all know Kentucky's largest city delivers the goods during Spooky Season.

A Kentucky Store for the Unusual

Have you ever heard of—or visited—Caufield's Novelty on West Main Street? I stumbled across it while searching for the largest Halloween store in Kentucky. Then I dug a little deeper and asked Google Gemini if Caufield's was REALLY the largest such store in the Commonwealth. The answer? Not technically. Still, if size matters, Caufield's boasts 30,000 square feet of space, including 10,000 square feet of retail space and another 20,000 square feet of warehouse space. That's a lot of room for an inventory that could make any Halloween lover weep tears of joy. My own tear ducts are tuning up as we speak.

More Than Costumes and Masks

The first page of Caufield's website ticks off the kinds of merchandise you'll find there, and it's a wonderland for any Halloween lover, party planner or haunted-house creator. Makeup, wigs, accessories, masks, fog machines, lighting ... the usual suspects. There's also a "Licenses" tab for online shoppers looking for specific items from movies and TV. Searching for stuff from, say, American Horror Story, Jeepers Creepers or any of the Halloween movies? That tab lets you check whether licensed merchandise from those properties is available.

Caufield's also carries merchandise for all kinds of holidays under the "Holidays and Occasions" tab. But if you don't find the specific merchandise you're looking for on the website, that shouldn't stop you from visiting the store. It's more than just stocked shelves. YouTube contributor The Horror Greenbook gives us a look at what I'm talking about in this store walk-through.

And speaking of other holidays, Caufield's has already scheduled its Holiday Nightmare on Main Street event for December 5 and 6, 2026. The event will feature more than 80 vendors, along with Krampus and Grinch photo opportunities, a slime-making bar and unusual holiday finds. Admission is free, and the event is open to all ages.

Sure, Caufield's is a perfect stop on a scary road trip, and the store is open year-round. But as a Halloween lover, I have no problem extending Spooky Season well beyond its usual "borders."
