Okay, so the old expression goes something like this, "Why it's hot enough to fry an egg on the sidewalk." We decided to go with asphalt. It's black and bound to be hotter. And yesterday--Tuesday, July 12th, 2011--the heat index reached 124 degrees. Somebody get the egg timer! So we asked our good buddies at Great Harvest if we could borrow an egg--of course, with no guarantee of return. We cracked it and dropped it on the hot blacktop out in front of the WBKR main lobby. Nothing. The yolk turned a little white, but maybe it does that anyway. We had an enormous amount of heat for a couple of hours. Still nothing. Then the clouds rolled in and the temperature dropped and the rains came. No asphalt eggs for us. But, I did view a Youtube video that explains how it can be done and, as it turns out, we were woefully unprepared. Next time, we'll know better.
