This morning on the show, we went bananas! Our friend Tracy inspired the discussion about grocery store etiquette. She asked this question on her Facebook page, "While shopping, is it OK to pull apart bunches of bananas?"

I've never thought it wasn't OK, but I also never tear bunches apart.  My family either eats them, or once they start to brown, I toss them in the freezer for smoothies or bread I will never bake. However, Tracy is so considerate of others that she's always thought breaking up bananas could be a faux pas.

Lots of folks chimed in, assuring her that she can, in fact, pluck off one, or two, or three if that's all she needs. "I feel so free!" Tracy joked. A whole new world in the produce section for her! Watch out, y'all! Next, she'll be portioning grapes!

We also learned something new today from another friend who called in to chat about how she is always selective about her "nanners" because she prefers them still green! Jennifer shared a tip for other folks who want to slow down the ripening process. "Wrap the stems in Reynold's Wrap." Listen to what she says to do:

What an easy trick! I'll definitely be trying that. Bananas start to turn brown as ethylene gas is released from their stems. So the aluminum foil covering the stems slows down the process. Traps the ethylene in for longer, keeping them fresh. Real Simple Magazine recently tested this and other ways to preserve bananas.

That way if you do ever end up with more than you need, you won't end up with a freezer full waiting for you to make that bread with them! Haha! Do you know any other food hacks? I'd love to learn more! Send me a message on the App Chat and fill me in!
