This holiday weekend will look a little bit different in Beaver Dam. Because of the rise in local COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, event organizers had to make some realistic decisions. But, the fireworks celebration will go on as planned and everyone is encouraged to watch from their vehicles or from home.

I was so looking forward to seeing my stepson play with his band to open up the "Sounds on 2nd" season in Downtown Beaver Dam, but it's not to be. Hopefully that chance will come again in the future.

According to an announcement from the Beaver Dam Tourism Commission, these were necessary steps to keep the public safe.

"Due to a rise in local COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations, and in consultation with our healthcare partners, the Beaver Dam Tourism Commission has made the difficult decision to postpone the start of our weekly “Sounds on Second" concert series. The season was scheduled to start Friday, July 3. A new starting date will be announced at a later time."

Additionally, "Sparks in the Park,” scheduled for this Saturday, July 4, has been cancelled. Those who purchased tickets will receive a full refund. A city fireworks display will still proceed as planned on Saturday night, July 4. The fireworks will be set off near the Beaver Dam City Park. Folks in the vicinity are encouraged to watch the display from their homes or vehicles. These decisions were made in the interests of public health and safety," the announcement ended.
