This Kentucky “Senior Prom” is the Sweetest Thing Ever

This week, we got a message from Shelby Fryrear of Ohio County that said, "Hi! I am sure that Beaver Dam Nursing Home and Rehab is on your radar. And if not, it should be." She went on to share that this nursing home goes to lengths for their residents that she has personally never seen anywhere in a healthcare setting.

Her fiancé works there, so she gets to see firsthand how special the facility really is. "The love the staff has for their residents has truly shaped the way I look at the elderly in a whole new light," Shelby told me.

Ohio County Nursing Home Knows How to Have a Good Time!

She was right, of course, we are familiar with Beaver Dam Nursing and Rehab. They love to have some fun, so we have featured them before! Remember when they transformed the halls into a winter wonderland, complete with "sledding?"

Beaver Dam Nursing Home & Rehab Annual Prom

"They host a prom every year for their residents, which allows them to experience something from their youth again that they normally would not have the opportunity to," Shelby said. "This year is their 4th annual prom, and there is a post on Facebook by one of their employees that they are a bit short on covering all the expenses for prom."

All Are Invited to This "Senior Prom"

This year's theme is "Ignite the Night." Because the event is something outside of the norm, they rely on the generosity of the community through sponsors, donors, and supporters of fundraisers held throughout the year. The prom is held at New Assembly Church in Hartford. They invite other nursing homes to bring their residents, as well as members of the community.

Studio II Photography has taken some wonderful pictures because what is prom without a cheesy posed portrait to show off your fancy outfit? There is food, drinks, dancing, and they vote for a Prom King and Prom Queen! Like these two cuties who took a spin around the dance floor after their crowning.

Chandra from Studio II shared, "They are the sweetest people and love getting dressed up. I believe that getting out in the community and seeing family and friends is such a treat for the residents! We are so happy to be able to take photos and share in the memories!"
