I believe we're covering all the bases as more and more filmmakers head to the Bluegrass State to make their movies.

For starters, we already have a producer/director of horror films right here in Owensboro in the form of PJ Starks. Earlier this year, a Christmas movie for Lifetime was shot in Somerset KY with more to come from the network. In February, Ethan Hawke wrapped the biography of novelist Flannery O'Connor. Its called Wildcat. And that Orlando Bloom movie, Red Right Hand, is an action thriller.

With horror, holiday, non-fiction, and action genres accounted for, that only leaves rom-coms (although those Lifetime movies will likely fit that bill), musicals, and kids movies. But we can now check that last one off the list.

New Children's Movie Being Filmed in the Horse Cave/Cave City/Bowling Green Area

The movie is called Kangaroo Kids, and I'm not sure what it's about, but it appears there are characters named Joe Boy, Benjy, Annie, Johnny, Roxy, and a collective known as the Zooeys.

Branscombe Richmond -- the Long-Time Working Actor Helming 'Kangaroo Kids'

When I saw the name Branscombe Richmond, the nostalgia bells started going off. While he isn't a household name, I recognized him immediately. Richmond has been around FOREVER and has played roles in so many TV series, it would take up too much space. Long story short, you have most likely seen him before in guest shots on shows from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and up through today. Ironically, I can't remember why I remembered him so easily.

How 'Kangaroo Kids' Was Cast

So, Sunn Stream Productions. You may never have heard of it, but a LOT of folks will hear of it before too long. It's the name of a new streaming platform on which Kangaroo Kids will be presented. And by the way, you HAVE to love how this movie was cast, according to Glasgow News 1:

Kangaroo Kids will star newly discovered Kentucky talents who were recently selected at a casting call by the Southern Kentucky Film Commission at the Cave Area Conference Center.

Where to See 'Kangaroo Kids' When It's Finished

What a sensational opportunity for young actors in and around Barren, Hart and Warren counties where the film shoot is happening. And what an incentive--in addition to the lucrative tax incentive that drew them to Kentucky in the first place--for more and more film work to take place in the Cave City/Horse Cave/Bowling Green area. I've always felt the area had a cinematic quality; I'm happy to see I'm not alone.
