I Love Circus Peanuts, But This Banana Marshmallow Syrup Might Be Testing My Loyalty

When Halloween rolls around and people start posting about candy, I will invariably see quite a few posts from folks who simply cannot stand candy corn. I, on the other hand, love it. When circus peanuts (those marshmallow-y confections that, bizarrely, taste like bananas and are shaped like peanuts) come up, I've seen quite a few unpleasant facial expressions. I, on the other hand, love them.

Circus Peanuts - I Actually Like Them

Don't get me wrong. Just because I like two varieties of candy that several people I know cannot stand doesn't mean I like all candy. Many of these same people like LICORICE, so, you know, their opinions can't be trusted.

But let's get back to Circus Peanuts. The critiques I've heard are about the flavor and texture in equal parts. I have no issue with either, but I've discovered something that might mean I'm not totally on board with the ENTIRE circus peanut experience.

Circus Peanut Syrup

There is a small-batch syrup manufactured by BG Reynolds called Circus Peanut Clown Syrup, and, as you've likely guessed, it is banana-marshmallow flavored. And this is where my love for circus peanuts taps the brakes.

So proud of their product (as they should be) is BG Reynolds, that the website offers up a multitude of recipe suggestions like the Hurriclown, Big Top Mai Tai, Circus Peanut Daiquiri, and the Chimp Cocktail. Okay, maybe they're onto something here, because, on its face, the syrup simply did not sound good to me at all. But it must be popular, or it wouldn't qualify as one of their "Lost Flavors," meaning it's not always available.

But as part of a cocktail? I can totally see it. Of course, the proof, as always, will be in the tasting. Fingers crossed.
