In Owensboro, a local baker is sweetly celebrating World Autism Month. This April, they’re baking special cookies to raise awareness, promote acceptance, and champion inclusion for people with autism.

Baking with a Purpose

April is World Autism Month, kicking off with World Autism Awareness Day on April 2. It’s a time that’s grown into something bigger than awareness. It’s about understanding people on the autism spectrum, creating space for them, and celebrating what makes everyone different.

That’s exactly what Cookies by Cammie had in mind with her latest creations!

Creativity You Can See

If you’ve seen her work before, you know she doesn’t do anything halfway. Cookies by Cammie offers custom royal icing cookies, hand-painted designs, macarons, cakes, cake pops, and more. Each one feels a little like its own piece of art.

From holiday treats to playful designs, like cookies that look like burgers, her creativity keeps people coming back. And it shows. She has 100% customer recommendations, and customers love her sweet treats.

A Little Fun Along the Way

People online have been quick to show their support. The comments are full of excitement, with people tagging friends, placing orders, and sharing how much they love the designs.

One comment that stood out said, “ADVOCATOOOOORRRRS, Mount Up!” It’s one of those you either get or you don’t, but if you know, you know!

A Community That Cares

Groups like Puzzle Pieces offer programs for kids and teens that focus on learning and preparing for the future. Wendell Foster provides help with daily life skills and even gives parents a chance to recharge with programs like Parents Night Out.

There are also services for adults through The Opportunity Center, along with therapy options like Wight Speech & Language Services and TheraTree Pediatric Therapy.

Support doesn’t stop there. Owensboro Autism Network, LLC, helps connect families locally, and the Owensboro Convention Center has taken steps to be more inclusive as a certified sensory-friendly space. Families can also turn to The Center of Owensboro - Daviess County for help, and statewide programs are available through the Kentucky Advisory Council on Autism.

A Sweet Reminder

Sometimes it’s the small things that stick with people. A box of cookies. A kind message. A reminder that everyone belongs.

And in Owensboro, that message is coming through loud and clear this April, and all year long!
