Kentucky Dating Scene: Not the Easiest Place for Singles
Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, which means Cupid’s arrows are about to start flying! WalletHub’s latest Best & Worst States for Singles study shows some states are practically Cupid’s playgrounds, while others are not. But what about Kentucky?
Dating Isn’t Easy (No Matter Where You Are)
Dating can be tough at any age, and putting yourself out there to find your perfect match often feels impossible. I experienced that first-hand when I moved to Kentucky from Michigan. Making friends even felt like a challenge. It seemed as if you didn’t grow up here, you’d never really fit in. The social scene reminded me of high school cliques, and Owensboro felt like one big high school. Those early years were lonely until I met my husband. Suddenly, I gained not just an amazing partner, but a whole new circle of friends. Looking back, it makes sense. Everyone here grew up together and had long-standing friendships. I couldn’t relate, having moved around a lot for work during my adult life. Honestly, I’m just grateful I’m not single in today’s dating world!
What Makes a State “Date-Friendly”?
A state’s dating scene isn’t just about romance. It’s about opportunity. Lower costs of living let your paycheck stretch farther for more dates, while financially secure singles may chase states full of attractions for memorable outings. And let’s be real, dating is a numbers game. The more single adults around, the better your odds. WalletHub measured all 50 states across 29 metrics, from share of single adults and unemployment rates to restaurants per capita, to see where singles have the best shot at love.
The States Where Singles Thrive
If you’re looking for love (or at least plenty of options), these states are where Cupid’s arrows are flying fastest. Florida takes the crown, combining plenty of dating opportunities with a vibrant social scene. New York and Texas aren’t far behind, offering a mix of busy singles and endless date ideas. California charms with romance and nightlife galore, while Illinois rounds out the top five with a healthy mix of fun and dating chances. Basically, if you want your love life to feel like a buffet of options, these are the places to be.
When Dating Feels Like a Long Shot
At the other end of the spectrum, some states make finding love feel more like a quest than a casual swipe. Kentucky lands at a modest 41st place, proving that while there’s charm and community here, the dating pool is, let’s say, a bit limited. Joining Kentucky near the bottom are Kansas, Mississippi, and South Carolina, with West Virginia taking the very last spot. For singles in these states, scoring a Valentine might require creativity, patience, and maybe a little help from modern technology!

Don’t Take It Too Seriously
Taking dating too seriously is a guaranteed way to drain the fun out of it. The same goes for expecting perfection. No one’s flawless, and that includes you and me! The key is to really get to know someone before waving the white flag on romance. The discovery stage is where the fun lives. Well, most of the time, depending on what you discover, I guess! Either way, it’s all part of the adventure, and who knows? That next “mystery” might turn into something worth sticking around for.
