Daviess County High Students Recognized for Providing Christmas Gifts to Foust Elementary

Next Monday, the Marilyn & William Young Charitable Foundation will be celebrating its 20th anniversary by featuring the work of area schools that participated in the Foundation's Student Leadership Grant Program.  Here at WBKR, we're spending a few days on the morning show highlighting some of the schools and students who participated.

Today, we were joined by Ashton Payne, Nicole Johnson, and Gracie Broughton.  All are students from Daviess County High School and members of DC's National Honor Society.  They created a program that provided Christmas presents to students at Foust Elementary School.  They applied for and used a $1000 grant from the Young Foundation.  Foust's Family ReSource Program identified nine students in the school who were in immediate need of holiday assistance.  The NHS used their grant funds to buy gifts and necessary items for those nine students.

They went to Walmart to shop for the kids and then delivered their presents to Foust.  The idea was to give the parents of the children the opportunity to allow "Santa" to give the gifts.

The Marilyn & William Young Foundation's Student Leadership Grants Celebration is set for Monday, January 27th from 4pm to 6pm in the lobby of the RiverPark Center in downtown Owensboro.  Each school in the Davies County Public, Owensboro Public and Owensboro Catholic School Systems were invited to accept a grant of $1000 last year to complete service projects in our community.  Monday will highlight the amazing ways those grants were used.
