April 25th thru 29th, 2019, DCHS students will participate in cooking challenges as part of the “Cook Around the World” experience. Celebrity chef Damaris Phillips, co-star of “The Bobby and Damaris Show” with chef Bobby Flay, will oversee this tasty competition.

Jada Nickells, Kristen Calloway, Chelsie Corum, Haley Beyke, Jamie Clark, Kaitlyn Helton and Olivia Cleland are the lucky seven heading to Disney World to compete! They must have effective communication, teamwork and strategic planning as they compete in this fast-paced and fun cooking challenge.

Faculty sponsor Erica Selby, who serves as a Family Consumer Science teacher and FCCLA advisor at DCHS, said, “As a teacher, I am in the business of preparing students for life. This experience focuses on real-life skills; hard skills related to careers in Culinary Arts, as well as soft skills, which are a necessity in all career fields. The icing on the cake is that students get out of their comfort zone; maybe this is their first time out of Owensboro or on a plane, and in that there is growth.”

What a GREAT experience for these talented students! Good luck and soak in all of the fun at Disney World next week!
