Did You Know There is a Hot Dog Festival in Kentucky?
If you ask anyone from Harlan County, hot dogs are as Kentucky as bourbon, bluegrass and horses.
The Southeastern part of the state is known for coal country, gorgeous Appalachian mountain trails and is rich with American history. It's also home to some pretty awesome festivals like PossumFest and the Dog Days of Summer Annual Hot Dog Festival. I figured with it being National Hot Dog Day, if there are any weiner lovers in Kentucky who may want to celebrate on a larger scale, you can mark your calendars for a road trip.
Like PossumFest, it's a newer festival, but was such a hit, organizers have made sure it returns for more fun. Folks are already preparing for the event August 31st, the Saturday before Labor Day, from 12-6PM. You still have plenty of time to get your costume together and start mastering your hot dog eating technique.
Dog Days Contests are fun for the whole family, even the furry members. There is a costume contest for humans and dogs, a Hot Dog Hustle 5k, games for kids of all ages, and of course, a hot dog eating contest. Channel your inner Joey Chesnut and see how many you can chomp down to beat your competitors and be the top "weiner!"
Live music, inflatables, tons of vendors, and all the hot dogs you can eat. Organizers challenge you to try one of each! I don't know if I could do that, but I would love to try! What a fun festival! If you're looking for an interesting Labor Day road trip plan, save the date for this year's Dog Days of Summer Hot Dog Festival!
