Kentucky Friends Soak In The Magic Of Dolly Parton’s New Musical
Since July 18th, The Fisher Center for the Performing Arts at Belmont University in Nashville has been alive with the sound of music. Well, to be more exact it's been alive with the sound of music by country music legend and pop culture icon Dolly Parton. Dolly: A True Original Musical, which tells Dolly's story and features some of her biggest, most recognizable hits, enjoyed its world premiere that evening and has been thrilling audiences since.
The opening night crowd clearly LOVED the show. A video of the first curtain call was was recently shared on YouTube. Not only do you see a larger-than-life Dolly Parton projected on the screen, you can also see the cast members enjoying a raucous standing ovation from the show's first audience.
Over the weekend, three friends from Owensboro met up in Nashville to see the show.
Traci Davis, Linda Chinn Heady and Pam Chinn Haggard, who've been friends and Dolly fans for decades, took advantage of several pre-show photo ops.
So, what did they think of the actual show?
Traci posted this on Facebook. She wrote- "Dolly's musical was amazing!" She said she really liked it and gave it an "8 out of 10."
Linda, who admittedly isn't a fan of musicals (she once dramatically collapsed on the floor after a viewing of the movie musical version of Moulin Rouge), was reluctant to go. However, because it was 'Dolly,' she eventually agreed. And, guess what? She liked it "because it was Dolly."
Linda's sister Pam raved. She shared this about the show!
The stage, costumes and characters were all vibrant and lovable, just like Dolly herself. I especially thought the actress who portrayed young/childhood Dolly was excellent. As were the young woman Dolly and older Dolly. (Just the childhood one was my favorite, but her wearing the coat of many colors might have been part of that). All three ladies clearly had been coached by Dolly herself and studied Dolly to the point that they were able to really make the audience feel like we were seeing Dolly herself on stage!
Traci asked Pam and Linda if they'd see it again and all three agreed it's worth a return trip.
If you'd like to purchase tickets to the show, you can do so at DollyMusical.com/tickets. And, good news. Due to popular demand, the show just got extended two additional weeks. Tickets are now on sale for all shows, including the newly-added ones, which are scheduled from August 19th through the 31st.
