Encore Musicals of Owensboro Presents “The Sound of Music” at The Riverpark Center
The proverbial hills of Owensboro are alive with the Sound of Music starting this weekend thanks to Encore Musicals. Surely you have heard of them by now as they have been producing quality entertainment since 2017 (and even before that as Back Alley Musicals!) This local community theatre organization is committed to bringing the best of the best musicals to the stage while providing a fun atmosphere for local performers to hone their craft.
The cast and crew of The Sound of Music have been rehearsing since the beginning of May learning all of the music, and choreography to bring this classic story to life. With practices multiple nights a week, it really takes some major commitment to pull a musical together. I can't think of anyone better to steer the ship than legendary local performer and director, David Roberson. I have been lucky enough to perform in some of his shows way back when like Annie, Cinderella, and Into the Woods. They were all huge undertakings and The Sound of Music is no different.
The Sound of Music story made famous by the 1965 Julie Andrews film is about the von Trapp family and their governess, Maria, as they live through the beginnings of nazi occupation in Austria during World War II. This timeless musical features unforgettable songs such as "My Favorite Things" and "Do-Re-Mi." It is sure to be loved by folks of all ages.
Owensboro Health will be returning for the second year as premier sponsor. This means Encore will be able to present the show with a live orchestra! That is so much better than singers having to follow a musical track. This production will definitely be a treat for live music fans.
While the musical features the true story of the Von Trapp family, this particular production is truly a family affair when it comes to the performers as well. Captain Von Trapp is played by David Rodgers. His nieces, Callie and Annalynn play two of the Captain's children. His mom and dad, Ronda and Tony are in the ensemble. Callie's other grandfather David Roberson is the director. How cool is that that they enjoy doing this together?
Here is a stunning sneak peek performance from the actors who play Captain Von Trapp and his daughter Liesl.
Show dates are July 15-16 & 22-23 in Cannon Hall at RiverPark Center! If you would like to purchase tickets, please call the Riverpark Center at 270-687-2787, visit them online here, or go by in person to 101 Daviess St. Owensboro, KY.
