It was back in 1989 when a ragtag group of ace musicians who call themselves the Kentucky Headhunters released a cover of the Bill Monroe bluegrass classic "Walk Softly on This Heart of Mine."

To say the least, they kicked it up about 100 notches.

It was the follow-up, however, that became their signature song and helped propel their debut album Pickin' on Nashville to double-platinum status. The collection also won them a 1991 Grammy for Best Country Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal. That song, "Dumas Walker," has become the band's signature song and an enormous crowd-pleaser in concert.

And every time I hear the song, I get hungry for the menu items detailed in its lyrics. The band wrote it, so I'm guessing this combo is/was a favorite of theirs:

"We'll get a slawburger, fries, and a bottle of Ski; bring it on out to my baby and me."

As someone who loves cole slaw on BOTH hamburgers and hotdogs, I've tried this myself, and it's a home run. It's also on the menu at the Kentucky Headhunters' restaurant in Greensburg KY. And since Greensburg Bottling was once the only bottler of Double Cola and Ski in Kentucky, it makes sense the latter is a favorite beverage in the area.

Also, it appears as if the Greensburg eatery goes by a multitude of names, according to band member Doug Phelps.

I guess it's road trip time, folks. So let's do it. Let's all go down to Dumas Walker's. We'll get a slawburger, fries, and....

Well, you know.
