Here’s When & Where the First Wawa in Kentucky Will Open

South Louisville is getting ready for the grand opening of Kentucky's first Wawa convenience store. I've never been to one, but I hear they are pretty great!

What is a Wawa?

I am in a Facebook group with some friends who live around the world, and the gals in the Northeast absolutely rave about this popular gas station. Similar to Buc-ee’s, it has a cult-like following. Which, if I understand correctly, is due to their amazing made-to-order hoagies with fresh ingredients piled to the sky. I love a good sub sandwich! I also hear their breakfast goodies are the perfect way to start the day.

When I asked my Philly pal, Cree, for her review, her response was “First off, put some ‘respeck’ on it,” and compared it to if a Piggly Wiggly was combined with a gas station. The feel of a hometown corner store with amazing service and delicious food. Um, if that is what we can expect, then sign me up! That sounds AMAZING.

Where Will Kentucky's First Wawa Be Located?

This first Wawa store in Kentucky will be located near Okolona at 9650 Preston Crossing Boulevard, and is projected to open this summer, at the end of July. Kentuckians should expect to see more Wawas pop up, as there are 40 new stores total projected to be built around the state.

Future Kentucky Wawa Locations

According to their website, "Those sites are going through the local land development and permitting processes and include locations in the counties of Boone, Bullitt, Campbell, Fayette, Hardin, Jefferson, Jessamine, Oldham, Scott, Shelby, Simpson, and Warren. To build each store, Wawa will invest more than $7.5 million and employ, on average, 140 contractors and local partners. Once open, each store will employ an average of 35 associates, with Wawa expecting to create almost 1,500 long-term new jobs as a result of expansion in Kentucky."
