
Tax Prep Support: Free Services Available For Low-Income Residents In Owensboro
It's Tax Season and the Green River Asset Building Coalition is once again offering FREE tax preparation assistance for those who qualify in Owensboro and surrounding areas. In fact, GRABC is set to begin those services this year on Saturday, January 25th.
According to GRABC Executive Director Teresa Thomas, families with a combined annual income lower than $70,000 qualify for the FREE service. To be eligible for this program, you must fit one or more of these qualifications: low to moderate income, disabled, a senior citizen, or speak limited English.
If you qualify, you can simply walk into the GRABC's Owensboro office or you can make an appointment.
There's a list of documents that are necessary for your tax preparation.
1) Picture ID for yourself and spouse (required).
2) Social Security Cards or Individual Tax ID numbers for everyone on your tax return.
3) If you have an Identity Protection Pin, you must bring that letter with you to the tax site.
4) Income documentation (W2s, 1099s, Unemployment, Social Security, Alimony or Maintenance, Interest, Sales of Stocks, Cash Income, Scholarships, etc).
5) Documentation for Deductions (property tax, mortgage interest, medical expenses, charitable contribution, student loan interest, alimony paid, self-employment, etc.)
6) Documentation for Tax Credits (child and dependent care receipts, proof of tuition expenses, receipts for energy efficient upgrades to your home, etc.)
7) Health Insurance Statement (1095-A required if insurance was obtained through Healthcare.gov/kynect.ky.gov)
8) Last year's income tax return, if available.
9) Direct Deposit with documentation of personal bank accounts with routing numbers.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance is available at 1741 Scherm Road in Owensboro, KY.
Hours of operation for walk-ins are Tuesdays 9am to 2pm, Thursdays 2pm to 6pm, and Saturdays from 9am to 1pm. All times are CST.
