I have only had one experience in my lifetime that I could chalk up to a supernatural one. No joke, I was in my grandfather's apartment; it was attached to my parents' house. It was right after he passed away in 1994, and I was helping box up his things. I was alone and felt a tap on my shoulder. No one else was there.

Nothing like that has happened to me in the subsequent three decades, but it's an occurrence that has prevented me from completely discounting "things that go bump in the night," if you know what I mean.

The Ghost Bride of Cumberland Falls

So I will take seriously almost any "ghost story" I come across. That now includes a tale that's new to my ears. I wish I'd heard it sooner, since I was at Cumberland Falls last summer and would have loved to investigate the scene of reported sightings of a "ghost bride." I haven't heard of any accounts, though, of sightings of the groom since they both died at roughly the same time, according to legend.

The Sad Story of the Ghost Bride of Cumberland Falls

It seems the bride slipped from a cliff near the falls and fell to her death. The story has it that the groom, overcome with grief, jumped in after her, and neither was ever seen again. These ghost hunters thought they may have made contact.

Because there's never a guarantee you'll see a figure from "the other side" when you go looking, it's a good thing this ghostly couple haunts Cumberland Falls, a magnificent destination for any reason. Maybe you can visit during the appearance of a moonbow. Here's the schedule.

Good luck on your ghostly trek to the "Niagara of the South.
