Guinness World Records Awards Kentucky City for Putting a Big Pin in It
The oft-used term “put a pin it” can mean either coming back to a subject in a conversation or the act of putting a pin on a corkboard for usually the same reason. However, in the world of the internet and smartphones, you can put a pin in it for various tasks and when you look up driving directions, there might be a pin on your destination's location.
Did you know the biggest push pin in the world is located in Kentucky? Take a look:
TACK stands for the Transit Authority of Central Kentucky. Federal funding made the renovation of the entire building and the big pin possible.
Thomas Armey, who studied art and graphic design at the University of Kentucky, was part of the Big Pin team. It took 18 months to build it. It measures 21 feet 7 inches and weighs a little over 3,000 pounds. How big would the corkboard you would have to put it in have to be then?!? I'm not sure it would even fit in one office. Guinness is based in England so the metric size of the pin is 6.5786 meters. The 2026 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records will include the largest pin record.
Hardin County now has two largest item world records. Radcliff is home to the world's largest pocket knife. And the Kentucky records don't stop there; check out this post from Dave Spencer.
What is a world record in Kentucky that hasn't been discovered yet? Only time and maybe a large stapler will tell.
