When I, no, when all of us think of childhood, there's Fred Rogers coming through the door singing and changing from his suit jacket to his cardigan and flipping one shoe to the other hand to change into his sneakers. He was a friend for life.

The first trailer for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood hit the internet early on Monday and there all of us were, back in the presence of Mr. Rogers, in what will surely be an Oscar-worthy turn for two-time winner Tom Hanks.

From what I've read about the film from director Marielle Heller (Can You Ever Forgive Me?) to shoot the Pittsburgh-based children's show, she had the original cameras that were used shipped over from England, she used the same studio the show was shot in.

The show broadcast onscreen is uncanny. Matthew Rhys (The Americans) portrays a journalist who profiles Rogers. I immediately thought of the Oscar-nominated documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor? when I saw the scenes of Rogers off-camera explaining his philosophy of educating and listening to children. If you want to prepare yourself, the documentary is available to stream through HBO GO.

Stock up on those tissues, A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood will be in theaters on Friday, November 22nd.
