Hold Onto Your Heads! This Indiana Festival Brings A Terrifying Legend to Life
One of the first scary stories I ever heard was the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Set in a New York village, a man named Ichabod Crane is chased and tormented through the forest by a headless soldier on a horse. It was a short story written in 1820 by Washington Irving.
Many adaptations have followed ranging from a 1949 Walt Disney animated version:
To Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci's portrayal that still scares the "you know what" out of me.
If you love this classic tale like I do, and want to experience the legend in real life, an annual Indiana festival is right up your alley. They've been spooking attendees and having fun for forty years now, and there is something exciting for all ages to enjoy.
The Headless Horseman Festival at Conner Prairie in Fishers, Indiana invites you to "Step Into the Story" every Thursday-Saturday from October 3rd-27th. From 5-10PM the 19th recreated Prairie village is transformed to the dark and spooky world of Washington Irving's Sleepy Hollow.
A trail of terror through the cornfield, Marionette and Magic shows, ‘Mis’-Fortune telling with Carl Voyant, Live DJ and Live Music for dancing, delicious fall foods and drinks and the main event, A haunted hayride featuring the Headless Horseman himself.
From burgers to pizza, pretzels, Kettlecorn, and so much more, the festival will have a variety of food options throughout the ground.
