Join Ohio County’s Festive Cookie Swap: A Delicious New Holiday Tradition
This news is going to have you singing along with George Strait's holiday song, "Christmas Cookies!" You know the lyrics, right?
I sure do like those Christmas cookies, sugar
I sure do like those Christmas cookies, babe
The ones that look like Santa Claus
Christmas trees, and bells, and stars
I sure do like those Christmas cookies, babe
Well, if you're a fan of Christmas cookies, the Ohio County Cooperative Extension Service is 'baking' up an incredibly delicious and fun new holiday tradition- an epic Christmas cookie party! It's the first-ever Holiday Cookie Exchange and there are dates for kids AND adults.
Kelly Bland, the newest Family & Consumer Sciences Extension Agent in Ohio County, just came up with this idea this past Monday. She and her friends used to have an annual cookie exchange and she remembers how fun they were. So, she decided to create a holiday party at her Ohio County office and invite the public.
WHEN IS OHIO COUNTY'S HOLIDAY COOKIE EXCHANGE?
The party for adults is up first! There are two sessions available- Monday, December 9th at 10:30am and Tuesday, December 10th at 5:30pm. Space is limited to TWELVE participants at each event, so you have to hurry if you want in.
The Holiday Cookie Exchange, in addition to featuring a ridiculously fun cookie swap, will also feature an educational component. Kelly will be teaching the attendees about holiday cookie traditions from around the world.
Here's a spoiler alert. You know what the most popular Christmas cookie in the United States is? If you guessed 'gingerbread,' you're right!
HOW DOES THE HOLIDAY COOKIE EXCHANGE WORK?
Here's how the Holiday Cookie Exchange works. Each participant must bring THREE dozen cookies to the party. All cookies must be homemade and you need to specify what kind of cookies you're bringing to the party when you register to attend. In addition to bringing three dozen cookies, you'll be leaving with the same amount (so bring a cookie tin). See, it's a true cookie exchange in every sense of the word. You'll get three of each other kind of cookie brought to the party!
WHEN IS THE KIDS HOLIDAY COOKIE EXCHANGE?
While the 'adult' cookie exchange is set for early December, the Kids Holiday Cookie Exchange (for ages 9 to 18) is set for Monday, December 23rd at 10:30am and at 1pm. Like with the adult parties, the limit for each exchange is twelve.
Oh, and to add even more fun to the mix, adults are encouraged to wear their favorite ugly Christmas sweaters to their party, kids are encouraged to wear their favorite Christmas pajamas to theirs.
HOW TO RESERVE YOUR SPACE FOR THE HOLIDAY COOKIE EXCHANGE?
The Holiday Cookie Exchange is FREE of charge. But, remember, space is LIMITED! You want this cookie to crumble in your favor, so make your reservation today. To book your space and/or space for your child, call the Ohio County Extension Office at 270-298-7441.
