Hydroplane Racing to Return to Owensboro [VIDEO]

We just got a notification that Mayor Tom Watson has announced the return of hydroplane racing to Owensboro in 2020.

This is exciting news for the city and pretty nostalgic news, too.

The mayor will hold a press conference Wednesday afternoon to make the official announcement and discuss the details.

Just over two years ago, Hydro News posted a story from the Messenger-Inquirer's Keith Lawrence about the possible return of hydroplane racing to Owensboro and now we know it's going to happen.

When I was a kid, this was an enormous event on the river. I remember it would happen on Sundays and we could hear it loud and clear while sitting in church. How's that for an oddball tradition?
