I Visited NYC’s Golden Girls-Inspired Rue La Rue Cafe [Photos]
When Kevin and I were in New York City last week, we hopped on a 1 train and headed to uptown Manhattan. We heard about Rue La Rue Cafe, which is a Golden Girls-inspired cafe, and we had to see it for ourselves!
As promised, Rue La Rue is jam-packed with memorabilia from the show. And, yes! It comes complete with wallpaper from Blanche's bedroom and that iconic yellow telephone from the Golden Girls kitchen.
How hilarious and awesome is that?
Plus, there are other tributes to the show and the ladies who brought its characters to life!
And there's even a little Rue McClanahan red carpet action that comes complete with her Emmy Award she won for her work on the show!
Rue La Rue is small, but inviting and SO fun. There's a gigantic flat screen TV that plays classic Golden Girls episodes on loop. The cafe is basically a pop culture museum that pays tribute to these famed actresses and their "golden" alter-egos: Blanche, Dorothy, Sophia and Rose.
And the food? The food? Absolutely delicious! I had tomato soup in this amazing bread bowl with a grilled cheese topper!
Kevin had a grilled cheese with bacon!
And for dessert we split a gigantic slice of Betty White's Coconut Cake!
It was awesome! And, yes! For you dessert and TV show purists, Rue La Rue serves cheesecake!
Now . . . how to get there. There are several ways you can do it. But we took a C Train from Central Park up to 168th, then transferred to a 1 Train. We took that train to 191st Street, then exited at Broadway and walked a couple of blocks to Rue La Rue. It's located at 4396 Broadway.
Definitely worth the trip and a "golden" walk down the Miami memory lane. Rue La Rue, thank YOU for being a friend!
