If you're driving down Wolf Creek State Park Road in Windsor IL, keep your eyes on the road even if you DO see a tower with goats walking to the top of it on a spiral ramp. No, you won't be hallucinating; that's why you should make sure you're eyes are looking through the windshield.

The Goat Tower in Illinois

In that situation, the best thing to do would be to just stop and investigate Goat Tower Farm. You won't be the first, and I seriously doubt you'll be the last. I'm sure you'll have a lot of questions, but I don't mind answering the first one.

Known as the Tower of Baa, it was modeled after a tower in South Africa that Dave and Marcia Johnson saw in a wine magazine. You never know where your next inspiration will come from. And before you DO visit the farm, make sure you fill out the request form so the Johnsons can prepare for your tour.

The Other Goat Towers

The Johnsons' goat tower is practically an exact replica of its inspiration, the Goat Tower of Fairview Cheese & Wine Farm in Paarl, South Africa. Then you have what is, perhaps, the world's oldest goat tower in Portugal. And we'll bring it back to the states with the smaller goat tower in Dripping Springs TX.

So WHY are there goat towers at wineries and petting zoos? It's pretty simple. Goats like to climb, and they enjoy them. And so do we. I'm all for it.

Now...how about a giraffe tower?
