Battle of the Bangers: Delbert McClinton vs. Greylan James
Battle Of The Bangers
There's a plethora of music being released every single day. As a radio station, we can't play them all. I've put together a collection of some of my favorite tunes that either haven't made it, haven't been discovered, or haven't been heard. There may be artists you know, superstars you love, or names you've never heard of. I'll provide some backstory on the artist and my personal favorite lyrics from the song. You decide which one is the banger of the bunch to move on to next week's battle.
Greylan James - Pullin' From A Bottle
A young up-and-coming songwriter, you know Greylan James and don't even know it! You've heard his ability to write hit songs in singles such as "Next Thing You Know", which he co-wrote with Jordan Davis. Born and raised in Knoxville, Tennessee, James has become quite the celebrated songwriter, penning songs for artists such as Kenny Chesney, Darius Rucker, Chris Young, and Bailey Zimmerman, to name a few. His incredible songbook has reached over 650 million streams, and he's just getting started! You may recognize his radio single, "Water At A Wedding", but for me, the hit song is "Pullin' From A Bottle", off the same EP release. Check it out below and don't forget to vote for your favorite banger!
Lori's Favorite Lyrics:
"Pushing me away, so I'm pulling from a bottle
Piling on pain that I'll feel tomorrow
Ain't wasting no time, I'm diving right in
To what I got to lose, 80 proof deep end
Just a half-empty porch swing rocking this fool
She's somewhere putting on ice
Yeah, she's pushing me away, so I'm pulling from a bottle tonight"
Delbert McClinton - Everytime I Roll The Dice
According to my morning partner in crime, Travis, I only pick sappy, sad songs. So today, I prove him wrong with a legend, and counter with a challenge. To say Delbert McClinton is talented would be an understatement. Singer-songwriter and overall baddie musician, this man is a gem for so many reasons, some of which are just cool fun facts. For example, while on tour in the United Kingdom, playing harmonica for a blues band, McClinton once gave John Lennon tips on how to play blues harmonica. He can play several instruments, but his blues abilities are undeniable. For me, it's the songwriting, which first brought McClinton to fame in 1978 when Emmylou Harris took his song, "Two More Bottles Of Wine", to number one. He's been honored for multiple music contributions to the state of Texas, including his 2011 induction into the Texas Heritage Songwriters Hall of Fame. From the 1992 album, Never Been Rocked Enough, I challenge you not to tap your foot along to the single "Everytime I Roll The Dice".
Lori's Favorite Lyrics:
"She's got a lock on her door
But she gave me a key
She don't walk the floor
Oh, but she worries about meHer love has no strings, shackles or chains
But I'm holding on for dear life
She's like a rolling seven
Everytime I roll the dice"
