We have a lot of lakes throughout the Bluegrass State, but do you think you know which one is the deepest?

As you know, we have a lot of lakes in Kentucky. These lakes scattered all throughout the state provide guests with great opportunities for boating, kayaking, fishing, swimming, and some really beautiful views. Spending a day (or even a weekend) on a lake in the Bluegrass State is something that many residents and visitors long for in those cold, winter months. Something about being on a boat and casting a line out in the water just sounds like my kind of fun.

We have lakes of all shapes and sizes in Kentucky. Everyone has their own go-to lake to visit throughout the year. Out of all the lakes we have here, which one is the deepest? Of course, you know some of the bigger lakes in the state that attract many guests throughout the year. Kentucky Lake, being the most popular, is the largest lake in the state. The man-made man-made reservoir has over 160,000 acres of surface area and more than 2,300 miles of shoreline. However, just because it's the largest, it doesn't mean that it's the deepest.

This is the Deepest Lake in Kentucky

So, what is the deepest lake in Kentucky? Well, that distinction goes to a 2,335-acre man-made lake located in Mercer, Garrard, and Boyle counties in Kentucky. Herrington Lake is acknowledged as the deepest lake in the entire state. Just how deep is it? According to Herrington Lake's website:

Sitting in the heart of the three counties, this man-made wonder is the deepest lake in Kentucky, boasting a depth of 239 feet at the dam. Its existence is owed to the strategic damming of the Dix River by Kentucky Utilities.

There's a lot to do at Herrington Lake. Swim, boat, fish, explore, and so much more fun can be found here. You can learn all about that by clicking here. However, what's even more interesting about Kentucky's deepest lake is the lore behind it. Apparently, Herrington Lake has something monstrous swimming in its depths.

Whether there's a monster in the lake or not, it's still a pretty cool place to visit, especially during the summertime. Herrington Lake, Kentucky's deepest lake, has a lot going for it. You can learn more and make your plans by clicking here.
