One Indiana city found itself on a new ranking of the most overweight and obese cities in the country, and it might not be the one you'd expect.

According to the International Business Times, in 2011, "the city of Evansville, Indiana has the most obese metropolitan area in the nation." Well over a decade later, some people still like to hang on to that statistic as some claim to fame for Evansville. I'll still randomly see people on social media comment on an article or post about Evansville, saying that it's the most obese city in the country. However, that was in 2011. A lot has changed since then. In fact, it has changed so much that Evansville, Indiana, went from being the most obese city in America in 2011 to not even being in the top 100 in 2026.

That being said, one Indiana city did find itself within the top twenty most overweight and obese cities in America for 2026. Let's take a look at which city made the list.

Indiana City Ranks Among Most Overweight and Obese Cities in the U.S.

WalletHub just released its findings from its study on the Most Obese and Overweight Cities in America for 2026. Here's how the website came to its findings:

Certain places are more responsible than others for tipping the scale in favor of poor health, though. To identify them, WalletHub compared 100 of the most populated U.S. metro areas across 19 key indicators of weight-related problems. Our data set ranges from the share of physically inactive adults to projected obesity rates by 2050 to healthy-food access.

The city of Fort Wayne ranked as the 20th most overweight and obese city in the United States. That's a move up the list from last year's ranking, as Fort Wayne came in at number 29 on the list in 2025. The 2026 data reveal that Fort Wayne has the second-highest percentage of obese adults in the entire country.

Fort Wayne wasn't the only Indiana city to make the list. Indianapolis came in at number 37 this year. In 2025, the city ranked as the 40th most overweight and obese city in the United States. You can take a look at the full list of the most obese cities in America for 2026 by clicking here.
