Newburgh Begins Pedestrian Safety Improvements
Getting around part of Newburgh may take a little extra patience over the next few weeks, but the goal is something most drivers can get behind: making it safer for children and families.
The Town of Newburgh has announced that construction will begin Monday, July 13, on new sidewalk and pedestrian crossing improvements near Newburgh Elementary School.
The project is expected to continue until early August, weather permitting.

What to Expect During Construction
As crews work in the area, drivers and pedestrians should plan for:
- Temporary lane restrictions
- Sidewalk closures
- Minor traffic delays
Whether you're commuting through town or dropping someone off nearby, it's a good idea to allow a little extra travel time while construction is underway.

Safety is the Focus
Town officials say the improvements are part of Newburgh's ongoing efforts to create safer, more accessible routes for everyone who walks through the area.
That includes students heading to and from Newburgh Elementary, parents, neighbors, and anyone traveling through town on foot.
While construction may create a few temporary inconveniences, the finished project is designed to improve pedestrian safety for years to come.
Drivers and Pedestrians are Asked to Use Caution
The Town of Newburgh is asking everyone traveling through the construction zone to:
- Follow all posted traffic signs
- Watch for construction crews
- Slow down when necessary
- Use extra caution around pedestrians
Officials thanked the community in advance for its patience while the work is completed.
Additional information about the project is available through the Town of Newburgh website.
