Summer Shorts Kicks Off Theatre Workshop’s 63rd Season With Six Original One Act Plays
Theatre Workshop of Owensboro's Summer Shorts
Theatre Workshop of Owensboro is kicking off its 63rd season with "Summer Shorts," a production consisting of six one-act plays. Submissions for "Summer Shorts" begin in January, and this year, TWO received 81 plays, and then a select panel, as is the case every year, chose the six finalists to be produced.
During the run, audience members vote for their favorite play, with the winner to be determined after the final show. A prize will also be awarded to the writer of the play named the best by the Theatre Workshop panel. These are the six finalists.
Book Women
In the early 20th century, the Pack Horse Librarians rode deep into the eastern Kentucky Appalachians to deliver books to those who would otherwise not have that access. Book Women focuses on Ella Jane and her decision to join the troop.
Just Do As I Think
How very meta of a playwright to engage in a spirited discussion with two of his actors and two stagehands.
A Little Hold for This
It's an exasperating Halloween night for one man who answers the door only to find two adults, one a ghost and the other a zombie, who begin delivering scathing reviews of his candy selection.
Old Souls
Two soulmates reminisce in Heaven about finding each other in all walks of life.
A Few Things
Sheryl, too, has made it to Heaven. But now she's troubled by having to leave all her worldly possessions behind. A dealbreaker perhaps?
On the Green River
On their last day together, a man and his daughter reminisce while fishing on the Green River. (The writer, Courtney Peek, is from McLean County.)
The showtimes for 'Summer Shorts" are July 10th through the 12th and the 17th through the 19th. Performances on the 10th, 11th, 17th, and 18th are at 7:30 PM. Performances on the 12th and 19th are at 2 PM.
