How to Measure States' Vaccination Rates
WalletHub just released an interesting report – 2025’s States That Vaccinate the Most - gathering data from three core areas: child and teen immunization rates, adult and elderly vaccination rates, and disparities in access, along with influencing factors.
The states that vaccinate the most provide the safest environments when it comes to public health, as the likelihood that the next outbreak will begin or spread there is minimized. ~WalletHub analyst
Kentucky’s Vaccination Ranking in 2025
The report ranks Kentucky at 47th place, meaning only four other states have a lower overall immunization performance. The ranking suggests gaps in one or more of these dimensions, which may include lower flu shot uptake among adults or incomplete vaccine series for kids.
Key Vaccination Areas Where Kentucky Falls Short
Being ranked 47th out of 51 jurisdictions (including D.C.) places Kentucky among the states with the lowest vaccination rates overall, which could be taken as a troubling sign given the importance of herd immunity and disease prevention. The report also says that Kentucky has the 48th lowest share of teenagers aged 13-17 with up-to-date HPV vaccination, and the 50th lowest share of adults aged 60 and older with Zoster vaccination.

This low ranking has real consequences. Vaccination not only defends individuals but also helps prevent outbreaks – like the widespread measles resurgence in 2025 in other parts of the country. Kentucky’s low rates may leave its communities vulnerable, especially if misinformation or access barriers persist.
