Jammin For St. Jude: How A Small KY Town Raised 30K For Cancer Research
On Saturday, November 16th, Jenny and William Howard, their kids, and hundreds of family and friends gathered together in Philpot, Kentucky for the 4th Annual Jammin' for St. Jude Concert. That event, on property owned by Tony and Sandy Lanham, has become a staple fundraiser in this tight-knit East Daviess County community. The results- of the planning, the hard work, and the passion- continue to impress.
The Howards, who live in nearby Knottsville, have a decades-long tradition of raising money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. It started when their oldest son Gavin became very emotional while listening to a patient story song during an annual St. Jude Radiothon on The Country Station, 92.5 WBKR. That day, through tears, Gavin told his mom he wanted to do something to help the patients of St. Jude. So, he asked her to drive him to the radio station so he could donate roughly $30 he had gotten for his birthday. Gavin's donations have only gone up, meteorically, from there.
Since that time, through t-shirt sales and other fundraising efforts like Jammin' for St. Jude, the Howards have raised and donated over $125,000 and they have done it with incredible amounts of support from folks in their community.
Just look at the artists who jumped on board to entertain the crowd at this year's Jammin'!

Plus, this year, all WBKR Partners-in-Hope also receive this 'Music Gives to St. Jude Kids' sweatshirt!
